Why the name Susan Gets Social? I was the most anti-social kid ever. I wanted to be a rock star, but my inability to get over my stage fright and be comfortable in a room full of people kept me from realizing my dream. I eventually overcame that fear, and I rocked it out in several bands, did some PR for authors right out of college, and now I am building a career in social media.
Two years ago, I thought I was out of my league (and out of my mind) when I volunteered to run the social media accounts for the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) and ET Studio Productions. I knew little more than how to use hashtags and post pictures of my adorable mini golden doodles. But I subscribed to podcasts, read blogs religiously, and took a couple of courses to get myself up to speed to do what I really wanted to do. And that was become a social media manager.
